Welcome to Vani Knowledge Studio. Your privacy is not a feature; it is our core principle. This policy outlines how we handle your data within the Vani desktop application and our website.

1. Local-First Data Architecture

Vani is architected to prioritize your privacy. We do not collect, upload, or store your personal notes on our servers.

  • All notebooks, PDFs, and mind maps are stored locally on your device.
  • We have no technical "backdoor" to access your local study data.
  • Encryption is handled at the OS level by your machine.

2. AI Engines & Data Processing

Depending on your chosen AI configuration, data is processed in the following ways:

  • Local Engine (Ollama/GGUF): All AI processing happens on your CPU/GPU. No text or prompts ever leave your computer.
  • Cloud Engine (Gemini/Pollinations): Specific snippets of text are sent via encrypted channels to these providers to generate responses. This data is processed as per their enterprise privacy standards and is not stored by Vani.

3. Secure Cloud Synchronization

Vani connects directly to your OneDrive or Dropbox for backups.

  • Authentication happens through official OAuth2 protocols.
  • Your data travels directly from your PC to your cloud provider.
  • Vani servers never act as a middleman for your backup files.

4. Integrated Services

Features like Wikipedia search or Translation use standard secure API calls. Your interaction with Wikipedia within Vani is the same as using a private browser window on their official site.

5. Payment & Subscription Data

For our ₹99/month premium subscription, payments are processed by PCI-compliant third-party gateways. Vani does not store your credit card or sensitive financial information.

6. Your Data Rights

Since your data is stored locally, you have the absolute right to delete, export, or move your library at any time without our permission. To "delete your data" from Vani, simply delete the Vani folder in your Documents.
